There's something for everyone at MCS, so take your pick and get involved!

Trekkers

If you like hiking, rock climbing, snowshoeing and canoeing, then Mackenzie Trekkers is for you! As one of the school's biggest groups, the Trekkers go on several trips every year. In the fall, it might be hiking in Algonquin Park or four days rock climbing and hiking in Lake Placid, New York. A snowshoe hike is often planned for the winter. In the spring, an eight-day canoe trip on a major river is planned. You can go on just one or as many trips as you like. Joining Trekkers is one of the best ways to meet new friends and get to know some of the teachers who share your interests.

TACO

TACO stands for Mackenzie's Theatre Arts Company, our drama group. Every fall, TACO puts on a major production for the community - you have probably been to one of the plays over the years. This is another large group that has places for people with many different interests, from actors and actresses to lights and sound, set construction and set painting, stage crew, costume design, makeup and hairstyling.

Valley Reach

Are you a trivia buff? Do you know more than the average contestant on Jeopardy? Our Valley Reach Team practices at lunchtime a day or so each week. Members are always busy learning everything from the name of the river that passes through Rome to the name of the headmaster of Hogwarts School. We compete in a round robin tournament with the other teams in our league. We are always looking for some enthusiastic members for our team.

Techies

"Techies" take care of lights and sound in our auditorium - for band concerts, school assemblies, community events, school plays and the school musical. They are a small group but are very important to the success of all the productions that take place in our auditorium.

Student Council

The Student Council for next year has already been selected, but that does not mean it is too late for you to get involved! When school begins in August, there will be elections in every homeroom class for a class representative, who will serve in the general assembly of the Student Council. At Mackenzie, the Student Council organizes a great number of special events, including all dances and the Christmas Formal, assemblies, sports pep rallies, spirit weeks, coffee houses and school fun days.

Link Crew

The MCS Link Crew is a group of grade 11 and 12 students whose job it is to introduce grade 8 students to the world of high school. This orientation program is designed to make the transition from grade 8 to grade 9 a positive one. Grade 11 and 12 students apply and are selected in May to be members of Link Crew for the following year, and these students then serve as leaders and mentors for the new grade 9's throughout the school year.
